ABOUT N' THE SPIRIT
Our Founder
N' The Spirit Transformational Living was founded on June 28, 2002 by the organization's current Executive Director, Pamela R. Frazier. She was inspired to start the organization based on her own journey in recovery. This journey includes 32 years of long-term recovery and 35 years working in a professional capacity in the field of addiction. Her dedication and achievements have not gone unnoticed. In 1995, she was named Counselor of the Year by IAODAPCA.
A true visionary, Pamela helped to start the Women’s Treatment Center and worked there to help it achieve success for 21 years before retiring in 2012. In 2002, she initiated the National Addiction Counselor Day which is now celebrated every September 20th as the National Addiction Professional Day. But her biggest achievement came in 2003 when she opened the doors of N’ The Spirit Transformational Living, a recovery home for women coming out of treatment, jail and/or prison with substance disorders and/or mental health disorders.
Ms. Frazier uses her talents to serve others. She is certified in Domestic Violence and HIV Awareness and has served on several recovery boards. Her competence and skills were further recognized when she was asked to serve as a statewide trainer for the Department of Children and Family Services on Substance Abuse.
In 2010, Ms. Frazier received a Pardon from Illinois Governor Pat Quinn along with an expungement of her records from a judge. Some of her other numerous achievements include:
-
Master Certificate in 1998 and Master Plus Certificate in 2004 from The Johnnie Colemon Institute at Christ Universal Temple Church.
-
Illinois Delegate for Voices of Recovery at the Philadelphia Recovery Walk in 2010.
-
Founder of N’ The Spirit “BEHIND THE WALLS” Ministry which provides outreach and support services to incarcerated women, and co-founder of her church, Christ Universal Temple's Freedom Ministry, providing the same outreach and support to incarcerated men.
-
The Harriet Tubman Trail Blazer Award from Creativity United “We Dream in Color” in 2014.
Pamela is thankful to God for his abundant blessings in her life and committed to helping others by sharing her own story of recovery with people at her church, jails, prisons, 12-step meetings and anywhere else she feels it may help.
Our Motivation
Our founder Pamela Frazier, saw many women returning to treatment shortly after leaving. She realized they needed a place to continue healing from the lifestyle of addiction once they completed their treatment program. N' The Spirit was born out of her desire to provide women a safe and structured place to grow strong in their recovery.
The VISION of N' The Spirit is to focus on healing women holistically by addressing issues of low self-esteem, domestic violence, sexual abuse, abandonment, guilt and shame. Women learn to become self-sufficient and how to lead more productive lives through our program which is designed to uplift, inspire, educate and empower. Healing through holistic care helps to foster a new way of thinking and helps to TRANSFORM lives!
